Sedation Dentistry in Munster, Indiana
Dental anxiety is something millions of people deal with, and it keeps far too many patients from getting the care they need. If fear of the dentist has made it difficult for you to schedule or follow through with treatment, sedation dentistry at Munster Smile Studio is designed specifically for you. Dr. Carlos Hernandez offers gentle, carefully monitored sedation options to help you feel calm and comfortable throughout your appointment so that nothing stands between you and a healthy smile.
Who Can Benefit From Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation dental care is a good fit for a wide range of patients. It is especially helpful for those who experience dental anxiety treatment as an ongoing challenge, have avoided the dentist for years due to fear, have a sensitive gag reflex that makes treatment difficult, need sedation for long dental appointments or complex procedures, or simply want a more relaxed dental visits experience from start to finish.
If any of these apply to you, please let us know when you call. We will make sure the right option is in place before your appointment begins.

Nitrous Oxide Dentistry
Nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, is a gentle inhaled sedative that produces feelings of relaxation and ease within minutes of starting. It keeps you comfortable and aware throughout your appointment without putting you to sleep, and because it leaves your system so quickly once we stop the flow, most patients can drive themselves home afterward. Nitrous oxide is ideal for patients with mild to moderate anxiety and works well for sedation for dental procedures of almost any length.
Oral Sedation Dentistry
For patients who need a deeper level of calm, we offer oral sedation in the form of a prescribed anti-anxiety medication taken before your appointment. You remain conscious throughout and able to communicate with Dr. Hernandez, but you will feel deeply relaxed and may have very little memory of the appointment afterward. This is particularly effective for sedation for long dental appointments or for patients with significant fear of the dentist.
You will need a driver to bring you home after oral sedation, and we recommend giving yourself the rest of the day to recover at home.

Sedation for Complex Dental Work
Sedation can be particularly helpful when multiple procedures need to be completed in a single visit. Patients who need sedation for complex dental work often find they can accomplish in one appointment what might otherwise require three or four separate visits, which means less time in the chair overall. Dr. Hernandez plans every appointment carefully to make the most of your time and comfort.
Your Safety Is Our Priority
Both forms of sedation we offer are well established, widely used, and carefully matched to each patient's health history and level of anxiety. Dr. Hernandez reviews your full medical background before any sedation is recommended, and your comfort and vital signs are monitored throughout every appointment where sedation is used.

Frequently Asked Questions
Munster Smile Studio offers nitrous oxide dentistry and oral sedation dentistry using a prescribed anti-anxiety medication. Dr. Hernandez will recommend the most appropriate option based on your health history and the level of anxiety you experience.
Yes. Both options are extensively used across dentistry and are carefully monitored throughout treatment. Your health history is always reviewed before sedation is recommended, and your safety is our top priority from start to finish.
Absolutely. It is exactly what dental anxiety treatment with sedation is designed for. Many patients who had gone years without seeing a dentist find that sedation makes the entire experience manageable and even unremarkable.
With the sedation options we offer, you remain conscious but deeply relaxed. Most patients with nitrous oxide feel calm and slightly dreamy. Patients using oral sedation often feel very drowsy and may have minimal memory of the appointment. General anesthesia is not something we provide at this time.
No. If you receive oral sedation medication, you must arrange for a responsible adult to drive you to and from your appointment. We recommend planning for a relaxed rest of the day at home.
